Fun In the Sun: Your Delaware Summer Bucket List 2021

Are you and the kids looking to get out of the house? Now that summer is here, there are lots of fun activities for the whole family offered throughout Delaware. Check out our recommendations for great family outings in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties!

New Castle County

The Wilmington Blue Rocks host events and minor league baseball games for the High-A East at Frawley Stadium. In addition to the fun home games followed by fireworks, WBR hosts special events for children of all ages.

The Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Festival in Rockwell Park is just the sweet treat you’ve been craving. This outdoor event is like a big picnic with the community. There will be live local music and great ice cream, plus the Wilmington Brew Works Beer Garden and the First State Flea Market. Save the date, June 26 from 9 AM - 3 PM.

Steamin’ Days at Auburn Heights and the Marshall Steam Museum is sure to please the train-lovers in your households. Climb aboard the antique automobile and trains to transport back in time to the 1920s. Steamin’ Days are various Sundays throughout the Summer and into Fall.

The Delaware Children’s Museum is back open as of June 18! There’s so much for your little ones to explore and experience here. During the Summer they are closed Mondays but are open 10 AM - 8 PM Tuesday - Friday and 10 AM - 5 PM, Saturdays and Sundays.

Learn about the wonders of science at the Delaware Museum of Natural History Hands-on Science Days. Each Wednesday brings a new experience as you meet and pet new animals and specimens!

Kent County

Biggs Museum of American Art Summer Programs for Kids offers a variety of ways for children and their parents to explore art and learn. Check out their special children’s programming, including the “Read and Make Adventures.”

The Delaware State Fair returns to Harrington, Delaware July 23-31. Join in on the statewide extravaganza - food, carnival games, exhibits, shows, and more!

Sussex County

With 17 rides and loads of carnival games, Funland is appropriately named! The whole family will enjoy this boardwalk attraction that is celebrating its 50th Summer. Currently, the park is operating at limited capacity, so you will need to book a two-hour time slot for your family.

Captain Jack’s Pirate Golf at Bethany Beach is the place to make family memories this Summer. This is the only full miniature golf course at the Delaware Beaches. Children ages 3-6 play for a $1 discount.
